Vardan Pogosian, CPA
Founder
Vardan Pogosian is a Certified Public Accountant and a former IRS Agent who brings an insider’s perspective to clients in tax preparation, tax saving strategies and IRS representation. As a tax auditor for the IRS for nearly ten years, he served with both the Small Business/Self-Employed Division and the Large and International Business (LB&I) Division, and through these experiences, has worked on some of the most difficult and complicated IRS tax cases.
As a result of each challenge he’s encountered, he has also discovered opportunities and solutions, which makes him that much more practiced at what he does. Most CPAs have not worked for the IRS, and many have not had the opportunities Vardan has to be a part of a highly competent team.
By working in that high stakes environment alongside highly-accomplished tax attorneys, CPAs and business consultants, Vardan acquired the knowledge that makes him uniquely qualified in advising clients on a wide range of business and tax issues. Whether he is needed to serve as a part-time CFO to improve a company’s financials and operations or represent them before the IRS, and especially when needed to provide tax planning and tax minimization strategies to help them stay profitable, Vardan is a key asset to his clients.
Vardan earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Southern California (USC) and is a proud member of UCS’s Alumni Association, as well as an active member of CalCPA and ProVisors. Vardan formerly served as an Adjunct Instructor at Glendale Community College teaching Financial Accounting. Additionally, while serving as an IRS agent, he mentored and taught numerous classes and workshops for newly - hired agents.
With his expertise and IRS background, Vardan enjoys giving presentations to professional organizations. Most recently, he spoke about “The IRS Audit Selection Process” and “Three Little Known Tax Planning Strategies.”
In his spare time, Vardan enjoys traveling, reading, mentoring youth at his local church, and spending time with his wife and two children.
Raymond Nazaryan, CPA
President
Raymond Nazaryan, CPA is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Pogosian, Nazaryan and Company. Raymond provides the firm’s clients with over 20 years of accounting expertise in tax consulting, planning and compliance services for individuals, closely-held businesses and their related trusts. His experience and focus is on serving high net worth individuals, professional service companies and other business professionals.
Raymond previously operated his own public accounting practice, Nazaryan Accountancy Corporation, which he founded in 2018 and built into a successful practice entirely on the strength of business referrals from satisfied clients. He is skilled in addressing the needs of business owners and business practices in an integrated manner to ensure the optimization of planning opportunities to minimize their tax burden. In merging his accounting firm with Pogosian & Company, CPA, Raymond looks forward to growing the firm while ensuring clients receive the highest level of service.
Throughout Raymond’s career in public accounting, he has represented clients before the IRS, FTB and other government agencies. In today’s business environment with constantly changing laws and tax codes, it is essential that business owners and operators have someone looking out for their best interests to prevent them from enduring costly legal mistakes.
Prior to founding his accounting practice, Raymond served as a tax manager with Friedman Minsk Cole & Fastovsky (FMCF) and as a staff accountant at Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigh LLP (HCVT).
Raymond received his designation as a Certified Public Accountant from the State of California in 2004 and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance from Woodbury University.
Janette Panossian
Office Manager/Bookkeeping Specialist
Whether it’s bookkeeping, payroll, or financial statement preparation, you can count on Janette Panossian to deliver these services in an accurate and timely manner. Janette believes in partnerships. Therefore, she takes an active interest in each client’s business to develop an accurate understanding of their numbers and business needs. Her true joy in life is being used for a great purpose, and that is the foundation on which Janette bases everything she does: whether it is gaining insight into clients’ financials or volunteering for a program to empower others to live the life they love.
Janette has over 20 years of experience in accounting, payroll, human resources, project management, and marketing. Prior to joining Pogosian Nazaryan & Company, Janette was in charge of the accounting department at a distribution company.
Janette graduated with honors from California State University, Northridge and holds a degree in Family & Consumer Sciences with a minor in Business. With her education and experience, Janette is a valuable member of the Pogosian Nazaryan & Company team.
In her spare time, Janette enjoys creative projects such as designing clothes, cooking and volunteering at various non-profits.
Narine Petrosyan
Business Development
Narine Petrosyan oversees business development for Pogosian Nazaryan & Company. She has extensive experience in office administration and client services which ensures that all clients receive excellent service and clients’ confidential documents are handled with the utmost care.
Prior to joining Pogosian Nazaryan & Company, Narine worked for over six years as a Program Specialist and Case Manager with the City of Glendale. In this role, she received a Character and Ethics Award, issued for her work on the Character and Ethics Project. She also has client management experience from working as the executive secretary for the Verdugo Workforce Investment Board.
Narine graduated with Honors (Cum Laude) from California State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology.
In her spare time, Narine enjoys spending time with family, traveling to tropical locations, reading Russian literature, and mentoring youth.
Arpi Nazaryan, EA
Staff Accountant
Arpi Nazaryan is an accountant and an enrolled agent at Pogosian, Nazaryan &
Company, CPA where she is responsible for implementing payroll, sales tax, tax return
preparation for individuals and corporations, and preparing and filing incorporation and
LLC documents for clients. Arpi additionally specializes in offering law firms client trust
account management. Her experience harkens back to 2003 when she was
simultaneously served as inhouse accountant for both a law firm and an escrow
company for a three-year period. Since that time, she has continued to specialize in this
niche area which has distinguished her work over the years.
In 2004, Arpi founded Nazaryan Accounting Services, Inc. in Burbank, California which provided a full range of accounting services for business professionals, law firms, dental groups, owners of corporations and a range of business professionals. In November 2020, Nazaryan Accounting Services merged with Pogosian and Company CPA, and today it offers the best of both firms’ areas of expertise.
From working on the inception of corporations to their sale, closing or mergers, Arpi is instrumental to helping them navigate an often-complicated process if it is not done correctly. Acting as her clients’ advocate and friend, Arpi is able to make this process seamless while improving and refining their businesses.
Arpi looks forward to enlarging the firm’s extraordinary team and helping its clients maintain success in their practices by meeting and exceeding their service expectations.
Arpi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Management from Woodbury University and earned her EA certification as a California certified enrolled agent in 2013.
Edgar Zalinyan, EA
Staff Accountant
Edgar Zalinyan is a Staff Accountant for Pogosian Nazaryan & Company, responsible for preparing individual, business, and sales tax returns.
Edgar is also a licensed Enrolled Agent (EA) with extensive knowledge in the field of finance and accounting. Enrolled Agents are federally - licensed tax practitioners who have technical expertise in the field of taxation and are empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers for audits, collections, and appeals before all administrative levels of the IRS and state taxing authorities.
Prior to joining Pogosian Nazaryan & Company, Edgar spent nearly ten years at Armenia’s leading investment bank where he was promoted up the ranks from customer service to a financial analyst, internal auditor and finally, head of the Compliance Department. Having played a formative role in establishing the bank’s Compliance Department, and then running the Compliance Department, Edgar brings a wealth of experience in investment banking to Pogosian Nazaryan & Company’s clients.
Edgar holds a Master’s Degree in International Economics from the Armenian State University of Economics. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading books in the biography and personal improvement genre, and attending art events with his wife who is an artist/painter.
Syuzanna Balyan
Administrative Assistant
Syuzanna Balyan serves as Pogosian Nazaryan & Company’s Administrative Assistant. It is Syuzanna who is the front line for all calls and client inquiries with her pleasant and welcoming voice. Syuzanna joined Pogosian Nazaryan & Company in January 2019 and since that time has been assisting the firm with marketing, bookkeeping and organizing services.
Prior to joining Pogosian Nazaryan & Company, Syuzanna worked for a top tier firm in downtown Los Angeles where she provided detailed administrative and corporate support to the company’s general manager. She also was responsible for creating and implementing e-commerce, digital marketing and merchandising strategies there which increased the firm’s revenue, exponentially, over a period of four years.
Syuzanna is an alumnus of Yerevan State Linguistic University (now known as Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences) and holds a BSA in Foreign Languages and International Relations.
In her free time, Syuzanna enjoys spending time with friends, traveling internationally to Asia and Europe, discovering restaurants in Los Angeles and reading biographies about successful people.
